Tri Tip With The Works

I am notoriously known for not liking things the first time I try them, eat them, or hear them (ie. ziplining, Bay Cities Tri Tip sandwich with the works, songs). According to Melody, who knows me better than most people I know, "They have to grow on you". She was right about this sandwich. Or maybe it was just that I was too stubborn to listen to her the first time we went and I got it without "the works". Whatever it is, I cannot live with out having Bay Cities on a regular basis. Their sandwiches are well worth the 15-20 min paper-number deli-line wait; or you could skip the line, order on their website, and pick it up.

Lomo Saltado

Monique: "If I show you the food of this place your gonna love it, don't judge it from the outside, Okay?"

Jackie: "Okay, okay... I trust you. What's it called and what kind of food do they have?"

Monique: "Steak..."

Jackie: "You dont have to ask me twice when it comes to steak What time am I picking you up?"

That was our conversation after we were reminded that Bay Cities is closed on Mondays and our original plan to go there was cancelled. Plan B: Mario's Peruvian & Seafood Restaurant on Vine and Melrose. Monique didn't lie when she said the outside was a little scary. Thanks to my pleasant experiences with other hole in the wall restaurants I kept an open mind with this one.

We ordered the Cevice de Camarones (Shrimp Cocktail) as an appetizer and the Lomo Saltado as an entree. Both were to die for. They were not stingy with the shrimps and it was seasoned with just the right amount of lemony zest. The Lomo Soltado was like nothing I've ever tried before and tasted great. Definitely a place to try.

The Comme Ça Burger

I really don't know how we even ended up at Comme Ça in the middle of partying at the Marquee in Vegas this past weekend. Therefore I don't have much to say about it. However, big ups to Tania for leading us down the golden road to this heavenly piece of art that put me deep into a food coma (literally)...

Mergez Gourmet Sausage Sandwitch

Never would have I imagined that this limitation on eating - or being "kosher" - could offer such a tasty experience. When I was 18 and had no understanding of what being kosher really meant my boyfriend Mike introduced me to Jeff's on Pico and Robertson. Going to PF Chang's on a weekly basis and him only being able to enjoy the vegetarian plates while I sat and devoured endless platters of Mongolian beef and Kung Pao Shrimp was not working.

After almost 10 years since my first visit, Jeff's still offer the same collection of gourmet sausages. I usually order the Mergez - a spicy Moroccan beef and lamb sausage on a French roll, topped with Mediterranean salad.  The chilli fries are to die for. Jeff's also sells their sausages to go in multi packs so you can take them home and BBQ them at the comfort of your own home (versus eating there and getting stared down by the crowd of Rabis, their pregnant wives, and 6 children for wearing inappropriate clothing).
